As part of the 16 days of activism, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) will be undertaking various activities in the Free State and the Northern Cape Provinces respectively under the theme “Working together and creating zero-tolerant workplaces on gender-based violence, femicide and harassment”
Over the years, POPCRU has shown support for this global campaign running annually from the 25th of November to the 10th of December, aiming to eliminate gender-based violence, harassment, and femicide. The initiative advocates for zero-tolerance workplaces, emphasizing the need for safety, dignity, and respect, especially in sectors prone to high levels of violence, such as law enforcement and correctional facilities.
In this regard, the union will be hosting the following activities;
Tuesday, 26 November: Mass meeting at Trompsburg Town Hall
Wednesday, 27 November: Mass meeting at Mangaung SAPS
Thursday, 28 November: General Meeting at DCS Regional Office, Bloemfontein
Friday, 29 November: POPCRU march to submit a memorandum of demands to the DCS Area Commissioners office.
Nb. The march commences from Telkom Towers, Long Street from 10am to DuToitspaan Road, Kimberley
POPCRU’s involvement in these initiatives reflects a commitment to systemic change by fostering respectful, inclusive, and accountable workplaces to help reduce gender-based violence, particularly among public sector workers, and ensuring fair treatment and support for survivors.
